“The Painted Sail” Historic sailing boat owners Sam & Andy work along side many artist, musicians, writers and volunteers with heritage open days to help raise funds for the renovation of Lady Daphne, winning them the National Historic Ships Uk Marsh voilunteer Award in 2023 and National Historic Ships Uk Static ship of the year award 2024. Every year the Daphne volunteers help paint her huge sails and i was kindly given a piece of her sail to paint on. So i have chosen to work on a piece of folk art inspired by Daphnes community spirit connecting through story telling created for the now but reflecting on her past and the importance of Charlestown Harbour and the china clay industry. As a local artist I have been collaborating with owners Sam & Andy for a while now creating below deck art exhibitions, workshops and my open studio 24 which had hundreds of visitors on board in a sell out show. I’m also part of the F.O.LD friends of Lady Daphne. So it has been a pleasure to enter this piece of folk art reflecting my time spent on this beautiful 101 year old barge docked in Charlestown Harbour.
